LINGAYEN-Some 200 patients in eastern Pangasinan were provided with medical care to treat various diseases during the Integrated TB and Infectious Disease Caravan held March 24 at the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug.

Doctors from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and other health professionals conducted free medical check-ups and consultation on tuberculosis patients from nine towns including Rosales, Asingan, Balungao, Natividad, San Nicolas, San Quintin, Sta Maria, Umingan and Tayug.

The patients expressed delight that the medical team from the PHO, municipal health offices, rural health offices, and private groups did not only conduct check-up on patients suspected of having TB but also expanded their services to the consultations on other infectious diseases like tuberculine skin test (TST) for children, skin disease consultation, and anti-rabies vaccination.

A teary eyed patient who has been showing tuberculosis symptomatic signs said he is very happy and thankful that he is able to avail of medicines that he needs to cure his illness.

Luis Delinea of Tayug said, “Nagpapasalamat ako sa provincial government at nagkaroon ako ng pagkakataon na makapagpatingin at mabigyan ng mga libreng gamot.”

Dr. Anna De Guzman, PHO chief, said the TB Caravan was the sixth, following stops in western and central Pangasinan.

The outreach program supplemented existing services like the TB consultation through the TB-DOTS clinics in all the 14 government hospitals in the province.

The previous caravans which started in 2012 were held at the Lingayen District Hospital, Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, Urdaneta District Hospital, Western Pangasinan District Hospital and Bayambang District Hospital.

The caravan also included lectures for TB symptomatics to inform them of the things that need to be done in case of contracting tuberculosis. Lectures on how to avoid or deal with diseases like dengue, malaria, leprosy and rabies were also undertaken.

Aside from this, patients who were found positive of the disease will undergo free treatment for free under a six-month regimen. (PIO)
