Alaminos all set for Hundred Islands Festival 2014

ALAMINOS CITY–Final preparations are now underway for the staging of this year’s Hundred Islands Festival on March 19-24.

Mayor Arthur Celeste said all the activities for the weeklong celebration have been laid out, starting off with a celebration of the holy mass to be followed by a civic military and float parade on day 1.

The First Western Pangasinan Tourism Travel and Agri-Trade Expo will also be open from March 19-23.
Other events lined up are Children’s Day to feature the Far East Acrobat; “Alaminos City Para sa Lahat Night; “Miss Hundred Islands 2014 Pageant and Coronation; Longganisa Festival; Street Dancing Competition; Shooting Competition; and Youth, Senior Citizens and Balikbayan Night.
Prior the festival, an ultra marathon dubbed as 100 Islands Ultra International Marathon will be held on March 15, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The route covers the city proper and pass through the national highways of neighboring towns Bani, Anda, and Bolinao, and back to Alaminos City.
The Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) was the first national park proclaimed in the country by Former President Manuel Quezon.
It is composed of 124 islands scattered around the Lingayen Gulf and covering an area of 18.44 square kilometres.

Three of the bigger islands have been developed for tourism, named Governor’s Island, Quezon Island, and Children’s Island.
The city government in partnership with the provincial government have been undertaking further developments in these three islands by taking down illegal structures and building various tourism facilities.–Johanne R. Macob
