SOME 200 women from Dagupan City received a P1 million fund under the Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran Fund from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia.
De Venecia sought the amount from DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman to help housewives in Dagupan set up small-scale livelihood projects to boost the family income.
De Venecia and Mayor Belen Fernandez distributed the livelihood assistance at P5,000 per beneficiary, along with Nora de la Pas, assistant DSWD Regional Director, and Romeo Ubungen, provincial DSWD coordinator.
De Venevcia said the amount will empower women belonging to poor families in Dagupan to become entrepreneurs so that they can help not only their families but the city as well.
Fernandez challenged the beneficiaries to make their money grow, citing success stories of small-scale entrepreneurs who have multiplied their capital 1,000 times.
Fernandez ordered Market Supervisor Aguedo Sta. Maria to make stalls at the Malimgas Public Market available for the fund recipients where they can sell fish and vegetables.
While in Dagupan, De Venecia also turned over a weighing scale from the Department of Trade and Industry for public use at the Malimgas Public Market.
