Red Cross Pangasinan assures enough blood supply
THE Philippine Red Cross-Pangasinan Chapter based in Dagupan City maintains a daily balance of 224 units of blood, higher than the 119 units that each chapter is supposed to keep daily.
However, Florame Magalong, PRC chapter administrator, is still appealing for more blood donation to ensure that there will be more than enough supply to meet the growing needs of patients and in cases of emergencies.
Magalong, speaking during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodcasters sa Pilipinas (KBP) forum last week, said that the local chapter was one of the four PRC chapters nationwide to ship blood to Tacloban and Capiz after communities were devastated by typhoon “Yolanda” in November last year.
Magalong thanked the officials of the University of Luzon for conducting a blood-letting drive among its students which made up the bulk of the blood shipped to the Visayas.
At the same time, Magalong cited the Dagupan City Blood Coordinating Council led by Mayor Belen Fernandez as an important group in maintaining blood supply.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Magalong added, is still finalizing a proposed ordinance creating the Pangasinan Blood Coordinating Council which will include the formation of similar councils at the city, municipal and barangay levels. (LVM)
