Only 15 confirmed measles cases so far
BANI HAS HIGHEST
LINGAYEN—Only 15 of the 172 suspected measles cases in the province that were sent for testing by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) from January to February 3 this year were confirmed by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila.
Dr. Ana Theresa de Guzman, provincial health officer, said the town of Bani had the highest number of confirmed cases with four out of the 10 blood samples sent from suspected cases.
In San Carlos City, there were 35 suspected cases but only three turned out positive for measles while in Alaminos City two cases out of seven were confirmed.
Binmaley had five suspected cases, Bautista had eight, Sual had four and Bugallon had three and each of these had only one confirmed measles case.
De Guzman said that in view of the results, she has instructed rural health units to focus their efforts in places where there were positive cases to check the spread of the virus.
At the same time, De Guzman said the PHO, through the rural health units, had administered measles vaccination of some 7,000 children from six months to three years old around Pangasinan.
