No talk of politics yet—Espino

LINGAYEN—For Governor Amado Espino Jr., the next election in 2016 is still a long way away and not worth discussing just yet.

Matagal pa ‘yan (next election), magtrabaho muna tayo,” said the governor when interviewed by the media after the 2014 Employees’ Awards and Recognition held February 14 at the Sison Auditorium here.

Espino, who is now on his third and final term as governor, reiterated his message during his State of the Province Address (SOPA) two weeks ago that his remaining two and a half years in office will be “dedicated to work”.

When sought for his opinion on the recent pronouncement of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) Chairman Mark Cojuangco that he will seek the governor’s post in 2016, Espino said, “This is a free country. Gusto nilang tumakbo para sa gobernador, I accept that but I still stand to what I said, isasantabi ko muna ang pulitika dahil matagal pa.”

Espino, who is also a member of the NPC, added that he has “so much respect” for Cojuango and he has nothing against the latter’s announcement, which was made immediately after the SOPA last February 10.

In his SOPA, Espino declared, “The next election is still a long way to go, and we cannot allow premature political speculations to divide us, and divert our attention from tedious, more crucial task of sustaining the momentum for the continual growth and progress of Pangasinan.”–Johanne R. Macob
