MANGALDAN—A barangay chairman has been arrested and charged for frustrated homicide after he shot a young man whose motorcycle was apparently making a loud noise that irritated him.
The suspect was identified as Jessie de Vera, who fired at and wounded Mark Jason Muerong, 21, single, jobless and resident of Barangay Guiguilonen where the incident took place at around 9:00 p.m. of February 18.
De Vera was identified by a witness, Jordan Cabanlig, 24, resident of Barangay Nibaliw also here, who was with the victim at the time of the incident.
De Vera allegedly confronted Cabanlig and Muerong for the supposedly irritaing noise from the muffler of their motorcycle.
The two decided to just speed off to prevent further altercation, but this angered De Vera and fired his gun.
Muerong was hit on his left arm and rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City.
When De Vera was arrested, he was in possession of a stainless caliber .40 loaded with one inserted magazine with seven live ammunition.—Tita Roces
