SEVERAL barangay health stations can now serve as a birthing facility after receiving complete maternity health care packages last February 12.

Fourth District Congressman Gina De Venecia led the turn-over ceremony of the “mini hospital” kits from the Department of Health (DOH) at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC), Dagupan City.

Ang mga ito ay para sa kaligtasan ng magsisilang na ina,” remarked De Venecia.

De Venecia said the initial recipients of the packages were 100 villages from central Pangasinan towns, including Aguilar, Basista, Binmaley, Bugallon, Labrador, Lingayen, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Bayambang, Calasiao, Malasiqui, San Carlos City, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Alcala, Binalonan, Urdaneta City, Laoac, and Pozorrubio.

R1MC Chief Dr. Joseph Roland Mejia said pregnant women can now give birth in these health stations, except those with complicated conditions who can then be brought to the well-equipped R1MC.

The project was in accordance with one of the millennium development goals aimed at improving maternal health.

De Venecia said that next distribution to another batch is scheduled next month.

“By the end of the year, all the barangays in the province will have a kit,” she said.–Johanne R. Macob
