FOURTH District Rep. Gina de Venecia has challenged her ally, Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez, to make the planned city fishport world-class like the Tsukiji Fish Market  and Port in Tokyo, Japan.

De Venecia said on a visit to that fish market and port, she was impressed with the facility which, aside from being a trade center, was also crowded with tourists enjoying the restaurants that specialize in seafood dishes.

With this challenge, Fernandez and City Engineer Virginia Rosario are expected to leave for Tokyo, Japan to see the Tsukiji Fish market and Port and make it as a model for the Dagupan Fishport.

The Dagupan Fishport is already provided for in a law enacted by Congress with De Venecia as the author and approved by President Benigno Aquino III in December last year.

The project will get funding in the 2015 appropriation with an initial budget of possibly P50 million, said De Venecia.

She added that while the fishport will be a national project, the local government will be involved in its management.

De Venecia said Barangay Bonuan Binloc is being eyed as the site for the port, to complement the  Seafood Processing Plant in the area.
