Dagupan City to conduct one-month traffic experiment
THE existing traffic ordinance in Dagupan city will be suspended for a month to give way to a traffic experiment from February 2 to 28.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod, in response to a letter of request from Mayor Belen Fernandez dated January 24, 2014, approved the temporary suspension and gave authority to the Office of the City Mayor through the Public Assistance and Risk Management Council (PARMC) or the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) to conduct the experimentation, which includes but not limited to “designating new parking areas, loading and unloading zones and terminals”.
Suspended temporarily are the penalties provided for in Article III on Parking Areas and Article V on Loading and Unloading Zones of Ordinance No. 1748-2002.
The trial scheme was the result of an earlier dialogue with drivers of out-of-town jeepneys plying Dagupan who asked that they be given their own designated loading and unloading zones within the downtown area.
Fernandez said the city government wants to see if the designation of additional loading and unloading zones will improve vehicular flow around the city.
