Chinese businessman files robbery case vs. mining partners
A CHINESE businessman has filed a case for robbery at the City Prosecutor’s Office in Dagupan Thursday after he was allegedly victimized by his Filipino suppliers from Baguio City for copper/ore trading.
Jia Jianwei, 53, general manager of Hebei Chenglida Import and Export Trade Company Ltd. Who also introduced himself as the vice mayor of the City of Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, China executed a sworn affidavit before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against one Randy Tesoro of Stonecrest Mineral Resource Co. Ltd. and resident of 25 Lower Quarry St, Baguio City for grave threats and extortion.
NBI Supervising Agent Tim Rejano said the two parties signed a memorandum of agreement on Nov. 30, 2011 that Tesoro and his brother Ronald would deliver 50 metric tons of copper/ore with agreed grade and other specifications after submitting samples of their products that passed the requirements.
Jia reportedly paid them P950,000 but the Tesoro brothers failed to deliver the agreed quantities of copper/ore. A second transaction for another 50 metric tons where the complainant paid P850,000 again ended with just a 40 metric-tons shipment.
The complainant alleged that the quality of the copper delivered by the Tesoros were also substandard, prompting him to demand the return of his money.
On Feb.16, 2014, Jia returned to the Philippines and while in Baguio City, he was threatened by Tesoro that he will be kidnapped if he did not pay P100,000.
The complainant agreed during negotiations to give the amount in installment, with the P40,000 given in advance at the Star Plaza Hotel, Dagupan City in the afternoon of Feb. 19.
Jia then sought the assistance of NBI in Dagupan and an entrapment operation was planned.
Tesoro was arrested by the NBI during the entrapment after receiving marked money.
