SAN FABIAN–We need a seminary because we need Christ.

Thus said Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas in his homily during the consecration of a newly built chapel following the blessing and inauguration last Tuesday  of the  first theology seminary here located up a hill in Barangay Palapad.

The blessing of the new Mary Help of Christians Theology Seminary (MHCTS) was attended by priests and seminarians, as well as former Speaker  Jose de Venecia Jr., his wife Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia, San Fabian Mayor Constante Agbayani and representatives of Gov. Amado Espino Jr.

The Mary Help of Christians Theology Seminary came years after the establishment of the Mary Help of Christian Minor Seminary in Binmaley and the Mary Help of Christians Major Seminary in Dagupan City.

The  ceremony coincided with the 60th anniversary of the renaming of the of the Diocese of Lingayen into Diocese of Lingayen-Dagupan by a decree issued  Pope Pious XII and rthe 51lst anniversary of ther erlevation of of the Diocese of Lingayen-Dagupan to the rank of metropolitan ecclesiastical province.

After graduating from the minor and major seminaries, prospective priests enter a theology seminary before being finally admitted to priesthood.

Speaking after the solemn ceremony, Rep. De Venecia said the opening of the edifice is considered a historic day  for all the Catholic faithful in the province because the first school of theology has opened its doors in San Fabian, Pangasinan.

“The founding of Mary Help of Christians Theology Seminary here in Barangay Palapad has fortified the status of the 4th District as one of the Centers of Catholicism in the North. With its establishment, the 4th District is now home to three leading pillars of the Catholic faith, including the blessed Our Lady of Manaoag and the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan.” she said.
