A MEMBER of a Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team in Dagupan City, along with a jeepney driver, were arrested last January 4 in a buy-bust operation.

Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 1 (PDEA RO1) with the assistance of the Dagupan Police Station nabbed William Dela Cruz, 62, a barangay peacekeeper and a Philippine Navy Reservist, and 32-year old jeepney driver Gary Gubatan.

“It is very unnerving that the people we trust and appointed as guardians of our community are the ones destroying it by selling illegal drugs,” lamented by PDEA Regional Director Adrian G. Alvarino.

The authorities confiscated from the two suspects some 70 grams of Methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, valued at a street price of about P200,000.

Both are booked and will be facing lifetime imprisonment with a fine of P500,000 to P10 million if found guilty of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
