LINGAYEN–The Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) has secured endorsement from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on January 27, 2014 for its application for expansion from 150-bed capacity to 400.

Provincial Resolution No. 411-2014 formally endorses to the Department of Health (DOH) the application for a license to operate a 400-bed capacity of the PPH located in San Carlos City.

Dra. Anna Ma. Theresa De Guzman, provincial health officer, said, the DOH twill assess the hospital to check if it has the right number of personnel and equipment to support the hospital level-3 status.

De Guzman said the expansion will not require additional funding for personnel as the PPH has already been serving during peak periods about 450-500 patients daily despite its 150-bed capacity as authorized by the DOH.

Presently, PPH has a manpower of 565composed of 55 doctors, 210 nurses, 55 nursing attendants and midwives, 15 are pharmacists, 15 medical technologists, 15 dentists, and 210 administrative staff.

De Guzman said the license for an expanded capacity is necessary to enable PPH to submit a claim to PhilHealth without need for justification for each claim.

The ongoing PPH infrastructure development will be funded by the DOH with at least a P16 million budget while the provincial government has allocated a bigger counterpart.

Meanwhile, Board Member Antonio Sison, author of the resolution, said the last increase in capacity was done 20 years ago.

It was in the early 1990s that the PPH was devolved to the provincial government.–Johanne R. Macob
