1st 100 Islands Int’l Marathon set March 15-16
LINGAYEN—The first Hundred Islands Ultra International Marathon, sponsored by the provincial and city governments, will be held on March 15-16 with 100-kilometer and 50-kilometer races set from Alaminos City to the towns of Bani and Bolinao.
Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr., expressing the provincial government’s full support to the project, said the sporting event will help promote Pangasinan as a primary tourism destination, specifically the western part which is considered to have the most number of attractions.
Alaminos Mayor Arthur F. Celeste, for his part, said the race will be a “big boost to Pangasinan’s brand new monicker as ‘home of sports events’.”
A group of 30 Kenyan runners have signified intention to participate and more foreigners are expected to participate.
Prizes for the 100-kilometer race exclusively for male runners are: P100,000 (1st), P30,000 (2nd), and P20,000 (3rd).
For the 50km category, open to both male and female, the prizes are: P20,000 (1st), P10,000 (2nd), and P7,000 (3rd).
Philip Pacle, race director, said the ultra marathon race will have a curfew of 18 hours.
Registration is open until February 28 and fees are set at P3,500 for the 100km and P3,000 for the 50km inclusive of a souvenir shirt, welcome drinks and snack, get-together party at Lucap Wharf before the run, dinner and awarding at the Governor’s Island, boat ride day tour and island hopping at Quezon, Children, and Governor’s Islands.
