SAN QUINTIN—The parents of an 11-year old boy who accidentally shot his 10-year old playmate and relative on New Year’s eve inside their residence in Purok 5, Barangay Nangapuyan here will face charges to be filed by the police.

Senior Inspector Aurelio Manantan, the town police chief, said the child’s parents, both farmers, have been uncooperative and refused to surrender the firearm of unknown caliber that was used in the incident.

The police did not recover the gun or spent shell at the crime scene.

The victim, though now out of danger, is still at the Family Clinic in Tayug town where he was rushed after sustaining a gunshot wound in the chest.

Manantan said the two concerned families, who are related, have already settled the matter among them but the police will still file appropriate charges.

The police also turned over the child suspect to the municipal social welfare officer for custody.

“We would file appropriate charge against the suspect’s parents for negligence but that would be on regular filing,” Manantan said.
The incident took place on a mountainside and the suspect’s parents were not home when it happened.

Investigation showed the victim and the suspect were looking for playing cards but found the gun instead.—Eva Visperas
