BISHOP Marlo Peralta ,who has been serving the Alaminos Diocese, is moving to Ilocos Sur as the new archbishop of Nueva Segovia.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines website announced that Pope Francis appointed Peralta for the new post on Dececember 30 but the installation date has yet to be set.

Peralta, born on July 13, 1950 in San Carlos City, was ordained a priest at the age of 25 in 1975, and consecrated a bishop in 2006.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI appointed him Coadjutor bishop of Alaminos on Jan. 14, 2006 and became bishop by succession on July 1, 2007.

He replaces now retired Archbishop Ernesto Salgado who turned 77 years old last month.

Salgado served the Nueva Segovia Archdiocese with a population of 718,000, of which about 85 percent are Catholics, for eight years.—Eva Visperas
