AFTER conquering the Calasiao Puto Festival race last December, Marikina City-based Romeo Camingao proved to the Pangasinan cycling fans that his victory was not a fluke by winning the San Fabian Cycling Challenge on January 17.

The Davao City-born Camingao, 42, beat a big field of 72 participants by clocking in the 122-kilometer trek that started and ended in San Fabian in three hours, 20 minutes and 22 seconds, outdistancing his breakaway partner and local bet Oscar Espiritu by 50 meters in the final kilometer.

Camingao brought home a P3,600 prize and a trophy while Tour veteran Espiritu of San Manuel pocketed P2,400 and trophy.

Camingao’s teammate Reynald Trinidad outsprinted the second pack of twelve riders to notch the third prize worth P1,000 plus trophy.

Rounding up the top 10 who received prizes were: Benjie Nituan of Binalonan; Joe Maramba, Dagupan City; Roel Gendrano, Manila; Augusto Tumang, Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija; Roy Tequihanon, Manila; Oscar Carpizo, San Fabian; and Hector Padilla, Urdaneta City.

In the 55-year-old-and-above category, Mangaldanon Diony Aquino topped the event with Benito Abayou of Urbiztondo and Tony Agno of Villasis coming in second and third, respectively.

Municipal administrator Atty. Clifton Ganay flagged off the contestants.–JAGJr.
