23 arrested for jueteng operations

RENEWED CAMPAIGN VS. JUETENG

A RENEWED drive against the illegal numbers game jueteng has been launched by the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) by P/Sr. Supt. Moro Virgilio Lazo, newly-designated as regional chief.

Kicking off the campaign, 23 persons involved in jueteng in Pobalcion West, Umingan were arrested last January 20 by joint elements of the Umingan Police Station, Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division and Regional Public Safety Battalion 1.

The suspects were identified as Basilla Domingo, Jose Tabada, Mateo Barientos, Marcelo Vidal, Eduardo Cortez, of Poblacion West; Arcenio Galelta and Amado Castillo of Nancalabasaan; Edgardo Prepose, Corzillo Siblang and Rorego Santaroza of Cuardanetaan; Rodrigo Ramos and Nicole Abad of Luna Este; Rolando Pascua, Renato Operana  and Fredo Organo of Maseil-seil; Lucena Tolentino and Elsa Bedro of Poblacio East; Juana Tamayo and Cristy Bello of Villa Bantug, all in Umingan town.

Three other suspects, Aljade Ramos, Mark James Ramos and Nestor Gonzales, are residents of Rosario, Batangas while Alay Austria is  from Paniqui, Tarlac.

The suspects were caught in the house of one Basilla Domingo, 85, widow, while they were remitting and consolidating bets.

The raiding team confiscated cash money worth P8,322 in different denominations, papelitos or the paper sheets containing a record of bets, and other paraphernalia.

The seized items and suspects were brought to the Umingan Police Station for documentation and a case for violation of Republic Act 9287 was readied for filing against them.

Lazo said PRO1 already notified local police commanders that they are responsible for their area and must themselves take initiatives against illegal gambling.
