LINGAYEN— -“We have gone a long way. Nagbunga na rin ang hirap natin.”

This was declared by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. during the awarding program of the I Love Pangasinan tourism song and video-making competition held on December 15 at the Capitol Plaza here.

The governor expressed elation and commended the participants for helping the provincial government attain its goal of reviving the waning interests in local culture and arts.

“I am happy that Pangasinenses, especially the youth, have started to embrace our culture and heritage,” Gov. Espino said as he added that the present administration strived to resurrect the dying local culture dedicated to the youth.

The competition, which was launched in September in time for the tourism month celebration, has collected 13 entries from different aspiring local songwriters and video-makers in Pangasinan.

Maria Luisa A. Elduayan, Tourism Operations Division chief, said that the entries were later short listed to nine which were publicly shown last December 1 at the Robinson’s Place in Calasiao.

Elduayan said the nine finalists were given the chance for a two-week online public viewing wherein the public had the opportunity to vote for their best bet.

Emerging as grand prize winner was entry number six entitled, “Pangasinan, I Love Pangasinan by Geraldine Nisperos and family members from the town of Sual.

Nisperos’ piece also bagged the best video award and best song award. She brought home a total of P220,000.

Entry number three entitled “I Love Pangasinan,” by Mae Viray and company from Alaminos City notched the best performing artist award while the people’s choice award went to entry number 4 by Mark Anthony F. Erguiza and company from Binmaley town.

People’s Choice Award and Best Performing Artist both received P15,000 each while Best Video and Best Song each received a huge prize of P50,000 each.

Aside from certificate of recognition and the pride to be dubbed as the first-ever champion of the search, the grand prize winner received P120,000.

The awarding rite was held right after the first day of the nine-day anticipated Misa de Gallo at the Capitol here.

Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr., Pangasinan First Lady Prescilla Espino, and Board Member Nicky Boy Reyes also graced the affair. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
