P3-M prize money channeled back to corn farming
LINGAYEN–The P3 million prize incentive earned by the province for being one of the top five winners in the “Quality Corn Achievers” Awards this year will be invested in the industry to further boost production.
The prize was for Pangasinan having the highest average harvest per hectare of yellow corn.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. has recently been given authority by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to ask the Department of Agriculture Region 1 Office to transfer the fund to the provincial government.
A memorandum of agreement will also be drafted to list the projects and activities where the prize money will be spent.
The provincial government has an ongoing “Plant-now, Pay later” program for yellow corn farmers. (PIO)
