CALASIAO—Show your face.

Motorcycle and tricycle riders, either driver or passenger, are now banned from wearing bonnets, ski masks or other materials that cover the face when in transit in Calasiao.

The municipal council recently passed an ordinance, now under review by the provincial board, imposing the ban and listing penalties against violators.

The ordinance is intended as a deterrent to crimes perpetrated by criminals riding in tanden on a motorcycle, including robberies, snatching, and killings.

These criminals usually have their faces covered to prevent identification by witnesses.

Violators will be fined P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for the second, and for succeeding offenses P1,500/or imprisonment of 10 days upon the discretion of the court.—Eva Visperas
