LGUs told to keep it simple this Christmas
LINGAYEN—Local government units (LGUs) have been asked by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to keep their Christmas and fiesta celebrations simple in deference to the plight of thousands of victims affected by recent deadly calamities.
The provincial board passed a resolution last Monday calling all officials of component cities, municipalities and barangays to avoid spending lavishly to celebrate the season and instead help the victims of Typhoon Yolanda and the earthquake in Bohol.
“The provincial government of Pangasinan is urging all its kabaleyans to minimize, if not avoid, activities entailing unnecessary expenses in the celebration of Christmas parties and other festivities,” the SP resolution reads.
The provincial government also called on the LGUs to work together in mobilizing resources to help their fellow Filipinos in the calamity-struck areas.
“With this call of austerity and simplicity, we shall be able to use the expenses for other worthier causes,” Bince said.
“We would like to give free hand to the LGUs to limit not only their expenses but the number of days of their fiestas,” he added. –Eva Visperas
