LINGAYEN–Dr. Salud Bagalso, national president of the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP), has thanked the province and Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. for supporting the movement and its mission.

“Our gratitude to the provincial officials led by Gov. Espino is unquantifiable as it connotes a continued commitment to the vision of the scout movement which is to produce responsible leaders among our youth,” Bagalso said.

Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr., representing the governor, led the turn over of the new GSP building to the GSP official last November 28.

The turnover ceremony highlighted the 64th Provincial Encampment held last November 28 to December 1 with the theme “Believe, Belong, Be More” wherein more than 5,000 junior and senior girl scouts all over the province gathered.

Calimlim, in his message, encouraged the scouters to become advocates of environmental protection “for this would spare us from further destruction caused by calamities.”

“With what is happening now, we must unite to protect and conserve our environment so that we could be saved from the brunt of disastrous calamities,” said Calimlim referring to the recent typhoon Yolanda which devastated the parts of the Visayas.

The annual provincial encampment aims to develop unity among young girls and to discover learning experiences that would help them become responsible and empowered women in society.

The three-day event included disaster preparedness, cheer dancing, choral rendition, and photo session, among others. The scouters also toured at Hundred Islands in Alaminos City.

The event was also joined by former 4th District Board Member Mojamito Libunao Jr, his wife Irene Libunao, vice president for fund development and scout executives of the various GSP headquarters of the province. (PIO/Merly R. Tibalao)
