LINGAYEN—A P340 million fund has been allocated for 2014 from the national budget for infrastructure projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) covering the 2nd and 4th Districts of Pangasinan

“Our projects are mainly asset preservation and preventive maintenance of roads and bridges,” said DPWH District Engineer Elpidio Paragas.

The 2nd District is getting a bigger share at P200 million and the remaining Php140 million for the 4th District.
Projects to be undertaken in the 2nd District include the following reblocking and road widening along Pangasinan-Zambales and Pangasinan-Tarlac roads; replacement of bridges such as that of Kiray Bridge and Bocboc Bridge in Aguilar; completion of the phase 2 of San Jose Bridge in Baay, Lingayen with its phase 1 to be finished this year; and construction of five drainage systems along Pangasinan-Zambales road with a budget of P20-million.
Paragas said road widening in general has a budget of about P10-million per kilometre.

Projects for the 4th District are: construction of drainage system worth P13-million; P75-million road widening projects along Binmaley-Lucao boundary, Mangaldan-Manaoag-Binalonan, and Sta. Barbara-Mangaldan roads; replacement of Lucao No. 2 Bridge; building of an about 1.5-kilometer gravity wall or the construction and maintenance of riverbank protection along Pantal-Sinocalan, Dagupan City for flood mitigation.

“We will start implementing the projects once the fund is released to us,” assured Paragas.

He added that his office is requesting the national DPWH that they be allowed to use their savings from previous years to fund other infrastructure projects in the province.–Johanne R. Macob
