Comelec confirms Espino’s SOCE
CORRECTION, PLEASE
GOVERNOR Amado Espino Jr. can now heave a sigh of relief over the issue on his alleged failure to submit his statement of contributions and expenses (SOCE) for the May 2013 polls.
Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor of Pangasinan, said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office is set to issue a letter to the Department of Interior and Local Government confirming that Espino complied with election law by submitting his SOCE on time.
Salas said he went to the Comelec Manila on December 13 to show the original copy of Espino’s SOCE.
“They saw it was complete. The governor has complied with the law,” Salas added.
Espino submitted his SOCE on June 10 at 3:40 p.m.
Espino was among the 422 elected officials cited by Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes for supposedly failing to submit the campaign expense and asked to step down from their posts.
All candidates and political parties are required to file with the Comelec full, true and itemized SOCEs within 30 days after election day.—Eva Visperas
