BTF receives national award from DepEd
AFTER recently being awarded as most outstanding mayor for her efforts in fighting illegal drugs, Dagupan Mayor Belen T. Fernandez received another national citation, this time from the Department of Education (DepEd) as the ‘Most Progressive and Dedicated Partner’ in its Adopt-a-School Program.
The recognition for Fernandez , which she received last December 12, was for the project in collaboration with her family-owned CSI Group of Companies.
In accepting the recognition, Fernandez said education is a priority of her administration and she will continue to be an active partner of Deped in promoting quality and access to basic education.
She also thanked the private companies and other stakeholders for their support to the project.
Her significant contributions to education include the construction of five single-storey school buildings, repair of five school libraries, provision of computers,153 kiddie laptops, books, shelves, tables and chairs to five schools, classroom repainting and elevation of classrooms in low-lying schools in her capacity then as vice mayor.
Fernandez was also cited for being very supportive to DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela during the annual preparation of schools for the opening of classes.
Other activities initiated by Fernandez under the Adopt-a-School program include: Children’s Congress, BarkadaKontraDroga, Pagsasarili Program (school gardening), summer sports camp, campus security seminar, Science Discovery and Robotic Exhibition, Readathon (reading sessions) and provided fund support for Mathematic Fest, Say Dayew (Pangasinan cultural show), Buwan ng Wika, and Manlincor ya Kalangweran (young city officials).
