7 injured from firecrackers over Christmas week
LINGAYEN—Christmas week was marred by seven cases of fireworks-related injuries around the province, based on records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Dr. Anna de Guzman, PHO officer, said this number reported from December 21 to 26 is higher than the three recorded in the same period last year.
De Guzman said this year’s injuries include blast burn that didn’t require amputation, mostly from piccolo firecrackers.
Most of them were treated at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City, she added.
Dr. Karlo Marco Orduña, chief of clinics at PPH, said two children from San Carlos and one each from nearby Calasiao and Sta. Barbara towns were treated at their hospital since December 7 for blasting injuries caused by piccolo firecrackers.
The victims, aged six to 12, sustained minor injuries and were all out-patients, he added.
Last year, the PPH treated 18 firecracker-related injuries listed.
The monitoring will continue until January 6.—Eva Visperas
