SIX young swimmers who represented Dagupan in the 2013 Speedo National Long Course Swimmimg Championship held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila last November 27 to December 2 were honored last Dec. 18 by the city government.

Leading the honorees was 13-year old Dyrham Palfrey who bagged the gold medals in the 200-meter breaststroke and 50 meter breast stroke as well as two silver medals and another two bronze medals in separate events.

Twelve-year old Rianne Isabelle Casipit also bagged the gold in the 50-meter breaststroke while 11-year old Sofia de Vera won silver in her own event.

Three other members of the team — Sherwin Monato, 16; Anthony Palfrey, 12; and Marie Alexie Adriano, 11 — did not win medals but they were able to break their own records in their respective events.

Mayor Belen Fernandez commended the team led by their head coach Santiago Corpuz Jr. during her executive meeting with department heads at the CSI Stadia last week.

Corpuz, for his part, thanked the mayor not only for her support to the team but also for rehabilitating the Olympic-sized Dagupan City Swimming Pool, which will  soon be the venue for training of all Dagupan swimmers.

Fernandez has appointed Finnela Sim, a former member of the Far Eastern University swimming team who competed in many University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAASP) games, to oversee the swimming pool management and further training of the athletes.
