BINALONAN—Three army soldiers were arrested by the police here on December 26 after one of them reportedly fired his gun and hit a tricycle driver on Christmas Eve in Barangay Mangkasuy.

Chief Inspector June Galingan, officer-in-charge police chief here, said they will file cases of frustrated murder and obstruction of justice through inquest proceeding at the prosecutor’s office in Urdaneta City against Corporal Ryan Buenaobra, 31, Staff Sergeants Rommel Pelovello and Freddie Gososo, both 36.

The three are security officers of Lt. Col. Mary Christine Martinez of the Philippine Army who was in town to attend a family gathering.

Two other suspects, Master Sgt. Jackson Martinez and retired M/Sgt Wilson Martinez are still at large at press time.

The tricycle driver, identified as Gerald Bautista, 26, was hit in the head and in serious condition in a hospital in Dagupan City.

The suspects were having a drinking spree and singing at the residence of one Bernabe Bautista when one of the neighbors came to request that they bring down the volume of the videoke machine.

This apparently irked the suspects, prompting one of them to fire his gun, believed to be an M16, and the stray bullet hit Bautista. —Eva Visperas
