STO. TOMAS—The police here have arrested and filed charges against two suspects who were found in possession of fake P1,000 and P100 bills, some of which they used to buy cigarettes in a sari-sari store.

Police Senior Inspector Arnold Soriano, police chief here, said the case for illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes was filed at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in nearby Villasis town Monday against Alex Salayog, 37, and Alfred Ferrer, 33, both from Barangay Lasip Grande Dagupan City.

A sari-sari store owner who was victimized by the suspects immediately reported the incident upon realizing that the P1,000 bill they paid was fake.

The local police coordinated with nearby police stations of Alcala and Bautista town for blocking operations and arrest of the two suspects.

The police cornered Salayog and Ferrer in a brief chase after they sped off on a motorcycle from a gasoline station in Barangay San Pedro Ili, Alcala.

The suspects were found carrying three pieces of P1,000 bills and 41 pieces of fake P100 bills.

Also found in Ferrer’s possession was one sachet containing shabu and other drug paraphernalia.

The police filed case for violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code (illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instrument of credit) against the suspects and a separate case against Ferrer for illegal possession of dangerous drugs at the Prosecutor’s Office.—Eva Visperas
