Street kids to join basketball tournament
SOME 40 youngsters belonging to the ‘streets vulnerable’ in Dagupan City are participating in a nine-day basketball tournament from November 19 to 28 organized by the city government for them.
Marge L. Navata, head of the Task Force for the Prevention and Protection of Street Vulnerables, said the sporting event is one of the projects intended to keep the young ones from being vagrants loitering in the streets.
“This is one of the activities that we have organized to keep children away from the streets who kept on returning to the streets even after we have counseled them. We will never stop caring for them until all of them are back in school, which is the advocacy of Mayor Belen (Fernandez),” said Navata.
The mayor provided basketball uniforms, rubber shoes and socks to the players.
She shared her plan to bring them all back to school.
(CIO)
