Seafood Processing Plant continues workers’ training
FOR HIGH QUALITY STANDARD
FIFTY residents from among the poorest in Dagupan City have been given employment and are currently being trained at the Seafood Processing Plant managed by the National Integrated Fisheries and Development Center (NIFTDC).
The NIFTDC started training the new employees last Wednesday in a three -day skills training enhancement, which was also opened to employees of the exporters and local distributors to educate them on the standards that are being applied in the processing plant.
The training includes the implementation of good manufacturing practices (GMP), sanitation standard operating procedure (SSOP) and (HACCP) in the Seafood Processing Plant operation.
“We want to make sure that the exported products from us will not be burned or rejected in other countries,” Dr. Westly Rosario, NIFTDC chief and manager of the plant, said.
Rosario said the new workers were taken from the indigents list of the Dagupan City Social Welfare and Development Office.
“We are now providing employment to poor families in the city,” Rosario said.
The Seafood Processing Plant obtained in August its hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) accreditation and has since been receiving more demand from local and international exporters.
The 50 new workers will be in addition to the current 60 employees as the plant undertakes day-and-night shifting to meet the increasing demand for processing. —Dada Austria
