LINGAYEN— The recently concluded barangay elections in the 44 municipalities and four cities in the province was “generally peaceful.”

This was the assessment of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) even after it listed 90 barangays in 26 municipalities and four cities as “areas of concern.”

P/Chief Insp Inspector Ryan Manongdo, public information officer, said that the conduct of elections in the 1,191 polling centers proceeded without any major incident to compel extra measures from the Quick Reaction Units.

As of Oct. 29, a day after the elections, the Provincial Election Monitoring Action Center (PEMAC) was still completing data gathered regarding the elections.

The efforts to enforce the election gun ban from September 28 to the election day, Oct. 28, resulted in the arrest of 25 persons mainly through police operations and implementation of search warrants and warrants of arrest.

Seized during the ban were 26 firearms; and 779 other deadly weapons, including ammunitions.

The post-election monitoring by the 3,000 forces deployed will continue until such time that post election activities are completed, Manongdo said.

UNDAS

The 597 augmentation force personnel from the Police Regional Office1 in the province will remain in the province to beef up security measures for the observance of the All Saints and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2.

“The deployment will just be realigned to further assure safety as we expect influx of people particularly in cemeteries,” he said.

He added that motorist assistance stations will be established in all towns and national highways.

According to DPWH District engineer Elpidio Paragas, his office will also deploy personnel to provide additional motorist assistance stations. (Johanne R. Macob)
