Nurses’ group call for volunteers, aid for Yolanda victims
NURSES from Pangasinan who are ready to spend part of their Christmas holidays providing medical support to victims of Typhoon Yolanda can join the growing number of volunteers signing up with the National Nurses United’s Registered Nurse Response Network (RNRN).
“As people across the country prepare to celebrate the holiday season and news of the disaster’s after-effects slips from the headlines for many, our commitment to the disaster relief will never waver. We will continue to send qualified nurses to areas in greatest need as long as possible,” said Bonnie Castillo, director of RNRN.
Financial contributions for the group’s work can also be sent; check their webpage: www.nationalnursesunited.org/pages/rnrn-disaster-relief-fund.
Castillo said about 3,000 volunteers have so far passed the screening, including local and foreign nurses.
“People have lost their homes, lost their livelihood, lost their animals that helped with their livelihood. They need medical care. They lack medicine, lack nurses, lack doctors. In each area we go to, this is their plea, to help with medications and medical assistance,” said Nurse Joseph Catindig, a member of the first team sent out.
PROVINCIAL GOV’T
Meanwhile, Governor Amado Espino Jr. has issued a memorandum urging provincial government employees to keep the “bayanihan” spirit alive by continuing to raise relief funds and goods for the super typhoon’s victims.
The provincial government, tapping into the Calamity Fund, donated P4 million (P2 million each) to Tacloban City and the province of Leyte for their relief and rehabilitation purposes.
Provincial Treasurer Malou Utanes and Col. Rolando Diaz, Officer in Charge for General Services Office, have been tasked to handle the personal donations from the employees.—with report from PIO
