LINGAYEN— Anticipating the continued rise in number of Pangasinenses seeking employment overseas, the provincial government of Pangasinan launched an anti-illegal recruitment campaign recently.

In collaboration with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. with them to conduct a series of activities to further protect prospective applicants from the clutches of illegal recruiters.

According to Provincial Employment and Services Office Chief Alex Ferrer, among the activities include an intensive information campaign against illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons (AIR-TIP), establishment of OFW desks or kiosks, remedial programs in support of AIR-TIP campaign, and improvement of database and management not only for local policy formulation and plan development but for career guidance as well.

Pangasinan is one of the provinces that has the biggest bulk of OFWs deployed overseas.

So far this year, the POEA recorded 260 victims of illegal recruitment. Johanne R. Macob
