A walk in the park for 146 kapitans
THERE is one inexpensive and sure way to win an election – run unopposed!
It was a walk in the park for 146 candidates for barangay captain in Pangasinan who ran unopposed in Monday’s election.
Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, said they were the lucky ones from among hotly contested elections in 1,364 barangays in the province.
Among the more prominent unopposed village leaders was Amado Espino III alias Pogi, son and namesake of Gov. Amado Espino Jr., now as barangay captain-elect of Poblacion East, Bautista. He was a three-term mayor of Bautista town.
In Sto. Tomas town, the complete slate of two unopposed candidates in its two barangays, namely Poblacion and San Agustin, namely Barangay Captain Norlito Mones and neophyte barangay captain-elect Anaclito Aquino were quickly installed.
“Oh well, that can only happen in Sto. Tomas, ” Salas said noting how the town’s voters traditionally elect their political leaders.
Meanwhile, Belinda Pajarillo, who substituted for her husband, Mariano Pajarillo for barangay kagawad in St. Domingo, Tayug town, won. Mariano succumbed to heart attack around 4:00 a.m. Monday. (Eva Visperas)
