UP Subol Society holds “Padunungan”
“PADUNUGAN 2013”, an annual inter-campus competition among elementary and secondary schools in Pangasinan for the promotion of local culture among Pangasinense youth, was held last October 24 to 25 in Dagupan City.
Organized by the Diliman and Baguio chapters of the University of the Philippines Subol Society (UPSS), Padunungan’s activities for the elementary students included poem recital contest; folk dance competition; on-the-spot essay writing, poem writing and poster making contests; and group inter-campus quiz show for elementary level.
High school students competed in On-the-Spot essay writing, Pangasinan essay writing, poem writing, and sandpaper art making contests; mixed campus quiz show; impromptu speaking contest (in Ilocano and Pangasinan); cheer-dance competition; group inter-campus quiz show; and, the NCeries Astronomy Olympiad.
The UPSS, founded in 1975, is a university-based organization of Pangasinan students in the University of the Philippines whose focus is to serve Pangasinenses.
“Padunungan” is the fulfillment of the ‘subol,’ the Pangasinan word for “spring,” to depict what UPSS envisions for all youth: education is not mere academics. (PIA-1, Pangasinan)
