Team Pangasinan ranks 3rd best
BATANG PINOY LUZON LEG
Lingayen —Pangasinan’s star in sports continues to shine.
At the recently concluded Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon Leg held at Iba, Zambales on October 15-19, the Pangasinan delegation’s solid performance bested those from137 delegations from other provinces with a third strong finish.
Teams from Baguio City and Quezon City occupied the overall first and second places while Laguna and Manila ranked fourth and fifth.
The solid performance of the Pangasinan athletes produced 27 gold, 28 silver and 32 bronze medals.
Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., feeling gratified by the results, immediately sent congratulatory message to the delegation.
Gold placements were courtesy of contenders in Athletics (8), Archery (7), Karatedo (7), Sepak Takraw (1), Taekwondo (2) and Arnis (2).
Silver medals were earned in Athletics (10), Arnis (1), Archery (6), Boxing (2), Chess (1), Karatedo (5), Lawn Tennis (1), Taekwondo (1) and Volleyball-Men (1) while bronze medals were gathered in Athletics (4), Arnis (4), Archery (7), Boxing (4), Chess (2), Karatedo (9), Lawn Tennis (1), Taekwondo (2) and Table Tennis (1).
“Ang mahalaga ngayon, nakasama sa top three teams ang Pangasinan out of mas maraming competing LGUs sa buong Luzon,” Provincial Sports Director Modesto Operania said.
All the top three contenders from team Pangasinan — about 90 athletes — will compete in the Batang Pinoy national finals which will be held in Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City on November 19-13.
Gov. Espino, Executive Assistant III Operania and delegation officials Luciano Bravo and Marlon Domalanta will lead Pangasinan delegation in the national finals.
Team Pangasinan will field seven athletes in cycling and two teams in Basketball – 3/3 (men and women) for the national finals. The national final for Archery, however, was already played during the Luzon Leg.
Meanwhile, the provincial government will again organize weeklong training and conditioning for the athletes in preparation for the national finals. (PIO/Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca)
