SP set to tackle creation of ad hoc body
TAMAYO RESOLUTION
THE proposed resolution of Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo seeking to create an ad hoc blue ribbon committee in the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to look into the open-letter complaint of The PUNCH editor-publisher Ermin Garcia Jr. which was published in his column two weeks ago, is already included in the agenda for the Oct.7 regular session of the council.
He told The PUNCH that he was already assured that his resolution will be taken up in Monday’s regular meeting.
Tamayo was reportedly adamant that the resolution be included in next regular session after the secretariat failed to justify the inclusion of his draft and numbered resolution in last week’s agenda.
The complaint letter cited several anomalous transactions in the city government under the past city administration involving several past and present former officials.
Tamayo, however, clarified that the committee can only make an inquiry in aid of legislation for the purpose of determining what possible ordinance that can be legislated to prevent misuse of funds in the city government since the SP as a body can not investigate officials of the city per se.
His resolution specifically asked the special committee be “tasked to investigate and resolve issues that relate to accountability of public officials’ performing functions in Dagupan city in aid of legislation for the purposed of improving enforcement of laws and ordinances and systems in the implementation of programs in the city….”
