A PRESIDENTIAL proclamation seeking the segregation of a 27-hectare foreshore land in Barangay Bonuan BinlocĀ in Dagupan to serve as home site for landless residents in the city, including government employees and policemen, is expected to be signed soon by President Benigno Aquino III.

City Planning and Development Coordinator Romeo Rosario said an official of the Urban and Housing Development Coordinating Council informed Mayor Belen Fernandez that the segregation of the land at the request of the city government in 2005 during the administration of then Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. is now about to be approved by the President.

Toward this end, Fernandez reactivated the Dagupan City Housing Board, which she heads, to prepare for the implementation of the expected proclamation.

The City Planning and Development Office has also begun preparing a subdivision plan covering the whole area.

Rosario explained that the 27-hectare land in Bonuan Binloc is a large accretion land adjacent to the Tondaligan Park in Bonuan Binloc that forms part of public domain and may be disposed of only by presidential proclamation.

Once proclamation is issued, it will enable the city to relocate some of the informal settlers living in identified danger zones.

The segregated land is seen to accommodate about 500 families.

The mayor said all houses and commercial establishments that have encroached in the area will be demolished.
