LINGAYEN–Pangasinan continues to reap various awards for its successful breakthroughs in various fields, especially in agriculture.

This month, two national awards will be given to the province: the 2013 National Corn Achievers Award by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Gawad Pagkilala Award from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The national corn achievers award will be presented to the province on October 23 in Tagaytay City while the fisheries award will be given on October 18 in Diliman, Quezon City.

Dalisay Moya, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Agriculturist Office, said that both awards are the end-result of the present administration’s outstanding performance in corn production and significant impact in the protection, conservation and sustainable development of the fishery industry in Pangasinan.

Moya said it has been the thrust of the provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. to prioritize various agricultural programs and projects to hasten progress and development and enhance the lives of the marginal farmers and fishermen.

She also disclosed that over the past six years, Pangasinan agriculture has continuously been making significant strides as proven by numerous awards and citations received.

“Pangasinan is basically an agricultural and coastal province that is teeming with products thus the present administration’s thrust is to focus on enhancing its capacity to the fullest,” Moya said.

Last September, Pangasinan also received national awards on employment services, fiscal management, and tourism thrusts.

The fishery award is one of the main activities for the BFAR’s 50th Fisheries Conservation Week slated on October 13 to 19. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
