Pangasinan Boy Scouts have a new home
LINGAYEN—To boost the boy scouts movement in the province, the provincial government built a two-storey building in the town as headquarters of the BSP Pangasinan-San Carlos City Council.
The building located at the Maramba Boulevard was finally inaugurated last week.
Officials of the provincial government and Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) regional and provincial offices led the inauguration.
Previously, Council Scout Executive of Pangasinan-San Carlos City Council Vivencio Vinluan said that among the six councils in the region, the Pangasinan-San Carlos City ranks lowest in terms of membership.
The local council is currently on a membership drive to improve its standing.
An image-building seminar attended by representatives from Regions 1, 2, 3, and the Cordillera Administrative Region was held at the Pangasinan Sports and Training Center, Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.
The seminar taught the scout executives and public relations commissioners on how to sell scouting, how to get supporters, and how can we have them to continue supporting scouting, said Regional Scout Director Imelda Samson.
The new building was built through the initiative of Governor Amado Espino Jr., currently the regional chairman of the BSP.
“If Governor Espino will pursue his initial plan, then there will be a weekly scouting training courses on skills development as he always campaigns for the idea of ‘back-to-basics,” Samson said.
Pangasinan will host the Regional Jamboree at Camp Amado Espino Jr. on October 19-23 at the ecotourism park in Estanza, Lingayen to be attended by about 4,000-5,000 scouts.–Johanne R. Macob
