LINGAYEN—The efforts to improve capabilities of the Philippine National Police in the province went into high gear with the recent issuance of newly acquired Glock hand guns to still unarmed elements of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO).

Provincial Director Senior Supt. Marlou Chan said the initial delivery of 399 hand guns were distributed to those who have passed the Glock shooting proficiency skills marksmanship training.

Chan said he expects the next delivery of 365 pieces of Glocks to be delivered soon to complete the initial phase of the modernization plan of PNP in the province.

The PPPO also expects the delivery of mobility/vehicles and communication/hand radios soon for the full modernization plan.

Meanwhile, some 765 police officers that regularly conduct foot patrols have been issued a new pair of patrol shoes each.

Chan said the new footwear will make it more comfortable for police personnel to conduct regular street patrols for the implementation of Patrol 101 program.

CALASIAO CHIEF RELIEVED

Meanwhile, Chan disclosed that P/Supt. Noel Vallo has been relieved as chief of police of Calasiao after two successive shooting events in the town.

P/Chief Insp. Noel Espinoza replaced Vallo.

“That is an exercise of the command, discretion, management, and prerogative of a leadership. The relief was cleared and approved by the Comelec,” said Chan of the move to transfer Vallo at the PPPO.

A special investigation task group was formed to investigate the shooting incidents to determine if there had been operational lapses committed.

Apart from Calasiao, other towns with listed shooting incidents since September 28 up to October 21 were San Nicolas, Urdaneta City, Umingan, and Malasiqui.

For the barangay elections, the PPPO received augmentation forces from the PNP Region 1 and Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Some 1,324 policemen have been assigned to watch 1,199 polling polls in the province. (Johanne Margarette Macob)
