LINGAYEN– Mangatarem National High School’s Aniweng na Cuerdas Rondalla group will be one of two that will represent Northern Luzon at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) national level after passing the regional screening held last September 28 at the Sison Auditorium here.

Reynan Ayento, the group’s conductor, said it will be their second time to join the national competition and they feel more confident now than the first time.

The group, the only Pangasinan group national qualifier, has less than two months to prepare for the national tilt set on November 19-24 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila.

Baguio City National High School will also represent the region in the same category. The two groups beat San Isidro National High School and Kwerdas of Ilocos Norte National High School.

NAMCYA’s screening is deemed the most rigid, according to Dr. Miriam Najera, regional coordinator, which has been promoting music to the youth for 40 years.

It was the first time for Pangasinan to host the regional competition with the theme Ang Kabataan Tungo sa Kinabukasan ng Musika at Sining.

Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. who represented Gov. Amado Espino Jr, assured the province’s support for programs for culture and the arts, especially among the youth.
