CONSUMER WELFARE MONTH

VARIOUS consumer awareness seminars will be held this month by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Pangasinan to increase consumer vigilance in exercising their rights as specified under Republic Act 7394, the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

DTI Provincial Director Peter Mangabat said their aim is to strengthen consumer awareness and protection in line with the observance of Consumer Welfare Month this October.

The seminar on Product Standards and Conformance, in partnership with Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation, is set on October 11 at the Star Plaza Hotel in Dagupan.

The seminar is free of charge and open to retailers of electrical product to provide the business owners and their staff with information on the quality features of a product so they can differentiate certified electrical products from fake ones.

DTI will also hold a series of training among tenants of SM City Rosales and Magic Mall in Urdaneta City to enhance their skills and knowledge in handling consumers.

Consumers are urged to use and patronize only products that bear Product Standards (PS) or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC labels) to certify that the mandatory standards for household appliances, electrical and construction materials, auto supply, helmets and Christmas lights have been met.

The list of certified products are available at DTI’s website, www.dti.gov.ph or visit the DTI-Pangasinan office at 2F of Star Building, Arellano Street, Dagupan City. (PIA1-Pangasinan /AMM)
