THE family feud sidelight that surfaced in the run for barangay chairman in Dagupan City’s Barangay Poblacion Oeste, where a mother is running against a son (and another candidate person), took an ugly turn just 10 days before election day.

Councilor Guillermo “Emong” Vallejos, who is supporting his mother Lolita, 82, over his younger sibling Joseph, alias “Jojo”, was accused in a complaint forwarded to the City Prosecution Office by P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, chief of Police of Dagupan, for allegedly manhandling two men.

The complaints against Vallejos, a former barangay captain of Poblacion Oeste, were based on affidavits signed by the victims Dominador Paras, 52, of A.B. Fernandez West, and Ramil Wee, 45, of Careenan St.

The incident happened on October 18, 2013 at Careenan St, in Poblacion Oeste, Dagupan City at 12:10 midnight, when Vallejos allegedly blocked the path of Paras and Wee and accused them of removing the campaign poster/tarpaulin of her mother Lolita in one area.

When Paras and Wee allegedly denied any knowledge about the missing tarpaulin of his mother, Vallejos reacted by punching them.

Paras said as a result of the blow to his face, his eyeglasses broke.

Both victims claimed that after being hit by the bigger Vallejos, the latter allegedly threatened them: “Mga  pu… ninyong dalawa. Pagkatapos ng eleksiyon, may kalalagyan kayong dalawa.”

Realizing it was a grave threat coming from one of the officials of Dagupan, both Paras and Wee decided to report the incident to the police.

Vallejos, in a talk to a local radio station, denied he manhandled the two and but claimed having pushed one of them during their confrontation. He claimed both Paras and Wee were drunk.

Back to the intra-family’s political feud, Emong reportedly tried to persuade Jojo, the family’s second youngest sibling, to withdraw his candidacy for barangay chairman to give way to their mother, Lolita, and slide down to being a councilman but failed.

Lolita, who took over as barangay captain of Poblacion Oeste when Emong ran and won as regular member of the city council, is being opposed not only by Jojo but by another candidate Alfredo Ordonio whom, both Paras and Wee, are allegedly campaigning for.
