Tourism office sets up more visitor entry points for survey
LINGAYEN—The Tourism Operations Division (TOD) has launched additional survey points to gather more data on visitor arrivals in the province to strengthen data support for planning of programs and events.
The areas cover bus terminals, namely: Victory Liner, Five Star, and Solid North in the towns of Bolinao, Alaminos City, Dagupan City, and Lingayen.
At the opening of the Tourism Month celebration this year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office noted that the recording of tourist arrivals in Region 1, including Pangasinan which has the highest number of visitors, requires improvement to better reflect actual numbers.
TOD Chief Ma. Luisa Elduayan said the province recorded 234,894 visitors in the first quarter of the year.
Meanwhile, tourist arrivals based on accommodation establishments for this year’s first quarter stood at 37, 578.
In 2012, a total of 400,661 day tourists were logged.
“There is already a big increase and we urge everyone to promote Pangasinan further,” she added.
Meanwhile, Elduayan said other tourism-related programs of the province include the ongoing mobile accreditation campaign in partnership with the Department of Tourism in the cities of Dagupan, Alaminos, and Urdaneta to help tourism enterprises get accreditations conveniently; the recently launched Pangasinan tourism and music video competition and Balitok A Tawir Year 3, and the lakbay-aral (educational tour) to showcase destinations of the province and the best practices of the provincial government to make the local government unit (LGUs) and individuals tourism-oriented, among others.–Johanne R.
