LINGAYEN—Pangasinenses can expect more upgraded services and facilities in provincial hospitals and town health centers their health care in the years ahead.

This will be made possible by a P579.3million by the Department of Health (DOH) grant for the province’s health and facility enhancement program for 2013 and 2014 after its project proposals were approved.

Announced last week, the more than half a billion fund is being allocated for the upgrade of infrastructure and equipment in the various health care facilities in Pangasinan.

Of the budget, P276million is allocated for this year while the balance for next year will be downloaded to the partner/implementing agency, the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Dra. Anna Ma. Teresa De Guzman, Provincial Health Office (PHO) chief, said 52% of the total allocation amounting to P301.236 million goes to the provincial government while 48% or Php278.064 million to municipal governments.

The proposals were in line with the programs of the DOH Kalusugang Pangkalahatan aimed at universal health coverage and attainment of the millennium development goals (MDG).

The PHO chief said Pangasinan is one of the 12 provinces in the country that is deemed capable to achieve the MDG.

The province was given the highest allocation in the region not only because of its population but the cooperation of the provincial government and dedication and commitment of the province’s chief executive on health, and organized structure of the PHO.–Johanne R. Macob
