Mayor BTF sets sights on higher revenues
COLLECTION from cash tickets at the Dagupan City market registered an impressive 200 percent increase from P345,300 in August 2012 to P1.06 million in the first 26 days of August this year, prompting Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to belileve that more can actually be collected fro other sources as well.
The mayor attributed the increase to the deployment of are assigned to check on the daily activities of the collectors and daily revenue reports of the market administrator..
Cash tickets are issued daily by the city hall to vendors in the streets and inside public markets.
After talks with vendors and market officials, Fernandez said they admitted that there could have been collusion among some market officials, collectors and vendors in the past, which accounts for the dismal collection.
Fernandez said the low cash ticket collection in previous years contributed to the city government’s shortfall in collection of some P41 million against the projected revenue of P581 million.
At the same time, the mayor said the collection from cash tickets is but a small fraction of the potential income that the city can generate and she intends to pursue all other revenue sources.
The mayor said she wants to see an increase in the collection of businesses taxes and percentage taxes, real property taxes and other fees collected by the city.
